  • Meetup : Michael Mazur: The Inferno of Dante Free Exhibition
Twin Cities Photography Group (Minneapolis, St Paul, MN) Exhibition  Michael Mazur American, 1935-2009 The Inferno of Dante, 2000 Etchings with aquatint, letterpress Gift of Dolly J. Fiterman 2002.25 Michael Mazur: The Inferno of Dante Ending Soon! Saturday, June 11, 2011—Sunday, March 11, 2012 Galleries 315 and 316 Free Exhibition In the early 14th century, Dante Alighieri wrote The Inferno, one of the most celebrated poems of all time. Since then, readers have seen themselves and their neighbors in its timeless investigation of human frailty, and artists have repeatedly turned to the poem as a source of inspiration. In a project that extended through the 1990s, painter/printmaker Michael Mazur and poet Robert Pinsky collaborated on the production of a new illustrated translation of The Inferno. Mazur said that in grappling with Dante, he reinvigorated his own artistic creativity. Pinsky, who became Poet Laureate of the United States in 1997, credited Mazur's imagery with deepening his own understanding of the poem. In a shift from the practice of earlier artists, Mazur did not show Dante travelling through hell; instead, he showed his interpretation of what Dante saw. Mazur's investigation of The Inferno involved series produced in various mediums culminating in a grand portfolio of etchings, the entirety of which appears alongside a selection of Dante's verses translated by Pinsky. This is an opportunity to join two gifted modern artists–one working with images, the other with words–in their exploration of the depths of The Inferno, and of the human spirit itself.   Minneapolis, MN 55404 – USA Friday, March 2 at 11:00 AM Attending: 6 Details: http://www.meetup.com/tcphotogroup/events/53086232/
  • Meetup; Photo Critique Last months shooting events.
Twin Cities Photography Group (Minneapolis, St Paul, MN) Hi, I am thinking since we are doing all these shooting events let's make the critiques about the subjects that were in the shooting events we did the prior month to  get people more involved.  If you didn't go to any of the events but have photos in these categories feel free to bring them.  Or if you just want to come and  participate without pictures that is fine too.    If the object is to improve our photography let's start working towards helping each other with comp and design or even photoshop.  If you processed something and want some help on it bring it in and we can critique that as well.    I am breaking the time up by subject matter.    12:30 – 1:00  -  Review  Last months online CHallenge topic  Playing with Color. Short talk on color as an element of design. New online challenge revealed and examples given.   1:00  - 3:00 Pm  Out door and Event shooting  1. hot air balloons 2. White seamless shooting 3. Shooting with a ringlight 4. Shooting with a beauty dish 5. Shooting on the graffiti Wall.  6. Single light shooting with a model.      As always the format will be a friendly informal discussion where we can learn from each other.   In order for everyone to get a chance we limit the photos to three per person.  We have internet so if you want to load them up to your website that would be fine.  Or you can bring them in on a disc or a drive and we can put them on our laptop. Prints are welcome as well.  A treat to share  is  always wonderful.     We have a brand new projector hopefully images should look a lot better at this critique.  Matt Peterson will be relieved or at the very least amused.     See you all there   Diane               St Paul , MN – USA Saturday, March 3 at 12:00 PM Attending: 3 Details: http://www.meetup.com/tcphotogroup/events/52494972/
